The portrait experience: how a session with Hugo works, what to wear, and what it costs
Most people arrive certain they aren't photogenic. They've just never been directed. That's the whole idea behind the portrait experience: you don't need to know what to do — you only need to arrive.
Everything else, from the concept to where your hands go, is my half of the job. This guide walks through the session from first message to finished gallery, so you know exactly what you're booking. If you'd rather just see the work and the collections, they're on the portraits page.
The idea
What an editorial portrait session is
An editorial portrait is a directed, art-directed photograph — the kind you'd see in a magazine feature rather than a family album. There's a concept, a considered wardrobe, deliberate light, and a photographer who shapes every gesture. The result is an image that looks like you at your most unforgettable, not a lucky snapshot.
That's different from a headshot, which is quick, clean, and built for a specific job, and different from a model digital, which is deliberately unstyled. A portrait session is where the styling, the mood, and the idea all matter.
Who books the portrait experience
Built for the version of you that deserves a record.
Personal brands and founders
Imagery for a website, launch, or press that actually looks like the level you're operating at.
Pageant contestants and titleholders
Glamour portraits, headshots, and editorial imagery built for the stage and the socials.
Milestones
A birthday, a new chapter, a body you've worked for, a version of yourself you want on the wall.
Actors, performers, and creatives
Portraits with a point of view, for press kits and portfolios.
Couples
Natural, elegant, relaxed imagery that isn't highly posed.

How the session works
You do not need to know what to do. You only need to arrive.
- 01Discover
Mood, wardrobe, references, and a visual language built around your ambition. After you inquire, you get a personal reply within 1–2 business days with availability and a recommendation. Then we have a consultation — by phone call, text, or email, whichever you prefer, usually within a few days of your inquiry — to talk through the concept, the looks, and any references you love, so the day itself has a plan.
- 02Create
Confident direction through expression, movement, light, and every small detail. I run the session start to finish: where the light is, where your hands go, how to move so that it reads on camera. And you see the photos as we go — I proof every frame instantly during the session, so you can see how the images are coming out while I direct.
- 03Reveal
A meticulous edit and a refined collection designed to live beyond the moment. After the session you receive a link to a private proofing gallery to review from home. You pick the images you want retouched, and I retouch them by hand — natural skin, real texture, nothing plastic. Final files are delivered in high resolution and social-ready sizes. Unretouched proofs are available as an add-on.
Where sessions take place
In the studio, around the city, or both.
Studio sessions are built around controlled light — black-backdrop spotlighting, dramatic colour, clean editorial white. Location sessions use Las Vegas itself. The Editorial and Campaign collections pair two settings in one session, so you leave with two worlds, not one.
Destination work is available on request.
Fremont Street
Downtown neon, canopy light, and the old Vegas signs — the city at its most cinematic after dark.
Garage rooftops
Open sky, the skyline behind you, and clean concrete that reads like a fashion campaign.
The Wetlands
Soft water, reeds, and golden-hour light minutes from the city — nothing says Las Vegas until it does.
Red Rock
Red stone, desert scale, and the clearest light in Nevada for something wide and cinematic.
Preparation
What to wear and how to prepare
Wardrobe does a lot of the work in an editorial portrait, so we plan it together in the consultation. A few principles:
Looks, not outfits
Each look is a full change — wardrobe, sometimes hair, sometimes backdrop. Bring more options than your collection includes; we'll choose together. What looks right on camera is not always what looks right in the mirror.
Structure and texture over print
Tailoring, silk, velvet, leather, denim, a great coat. Solid colours and monochrome outfits read as intentional. Small busy patterns and large logos don't.
Fit over brand
If it doesn't fit perfectly, it shows on camera. Steam or press everything.
Shoes, jewellery, details
Heels change posture. Bring the pieces that feel like you — a signature ring, a watch, a hat.
Hair and makeup
Camera-ready means slightly more than everyday. Professional hair and makeup makes a real difference on the Signature collection and above, and I can recommend artists on request.
The week before
Sleep, water, and nothing new — no fresh haircuts, treatments, or products you haven't tried.
Bring anything — or anyone — that will make you feel comfortable. The goal is to represent you in the best and most natural way possible.

Before you book
Questions, answered.
What is included in every collection?
A consultation before the session, expert posing direction throughout, meticulous retouching, a private proofing gallery, and both high-resolution and social-ready files.
Where do sessions take place?
In studio in Las Vegas, on location around the city, or both. Favourite locations include Fremont Street, garage rooftops, the Wetlands, and Red Rock. Destination work is available on request.
I have never been photographed like this. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Direction is part of the experience. Hugo guides expression, movement, posture, and detail so you never have to wonder what to do.
How does the consultation work?
By phone call, text, or email — whichever you prefer — usually within a few days of your inquiry. We cover the concept, the looks, wardrobe, and any references you love.
How soon will I see the images?
You see frames instantly during the session, and receive a link to a private proofing gallery afterward to review from home. The Portrait is delivered in 7 business days. Signature, Editorial, and Campaign collections are delivered in 14 business days.
Who chooses the retouched images?
You do. You pick your favourites from the proofing gallery and those are the images that receive signature retouching. Unretouched proofs are available as an add-on.
How many outfits should I bring?
More than your collection includes. Bring three or four options per look and we'll choose together — what looks right on camera is not always what looks right in the mirror.
Do you retouch the images?
Yes — every collection includes signature retouching on your selected images. Skin keeps its texture and you keep your face; the goal is the best version of a real photograph, not a different person.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. Bring anything, or anyone, that will make you feel comfortable.
Can I use the images for my business?
Personal and social use is included with every collection. The Campaign collection includes web and social brand usage; paid advertising and commercial licensing are quoted separately.
